It appears that while DOOM’s SnapMap is kind of cool, it’s not as powerful or as friendly to modders, and comes with a lot of limitations. As we can see below, YouTube’s ‘MarphitimusBlackimus’ has tried to recreate a map with 100K Revenants, and ran immediately into SnapMap’s limitations. MarphitimusBlackimus was unable to create such a map, as he was limited to 64 Revenants (and 21 empty rooms).
Yeap, SnapMap won’t let you create whatever crazy idea you’ve got in mind. Not only that, but the game was unable to simultaneously render all those 64 Revenants. According to the modder, the game was able to simultaneously respawn only 12 Revenants and not all of them. Ouch.
And this is precisely why we’ve been asking for proper map and mod tools. Yes, the idea of SnapMap is actually cool, however id Software should take a look at what Bethesda has actually done with Fallout 4’s mod tools. While it’s still possible to create some very cool maps in DOOM, it’s pretty obvious that SnapMap comes with some ridiculous limitations.

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
