A few days ago, Team Ninja hinted at some big news regarding the Dead or Alive series. And during the Northeast Championship 18 event, the team announced the end of Dead or Alive 5. As such, Team Ninja will be no longer supporting this fighting game and will move on to other projects.
As Team Ninja’s brand manager said:
“Dead or Alive 5 has finally come to an end, but the Dead or Alive team is very active. Looking forward, I hope you’ll continue to support Dead or Alive.”
Game director Yohei Shimbori added:
“At last, DOA5 has become a game worthy of tournaments such as this one (Battle Royal). It’s been 5 years, yet you are still playing it, our tournaments get better each time, new champions emerge, and our community continues to expand. Also, the free to play version is also doing well, and we created so much DLC that the sheer amount would be worthy of the Guinness Book of World Records. However, it is time to stop what we are doing for now and look into the future, which means we may not be around for some time… but we are very much looking forward to seeing you again someday.”
Our guess is that this is a prank from Team Ninja (unless it truly believes that its DLC should be included in the Guinness Book of World Records). There has been a lot of speculation about a new Dead or Alive game, Dead or Alive 6, so the termination of Dead or Alive 5 could mean that the team is ready to unveil this next part. This is mere speculation though and nothing more.
We’ll be sure to keep you posted on Team Ninja’s future projects. Until then, here is the farewell video for Dead or Alive 5!
