Feral today released GameMode, an Open Source tool that helps Linux users to get the best performance out of their games. According to the press release, GameMode instructs your CPU to automatically run in Performance Mode when playing games.
The first Feral release to integrate the tool is Rise of the Tomb Raider, an incredible action-adventure coming to Linux this month.
Those interested can download GameMode from GitHub.
It will be interesting to see whether this performance tool will give a significant boost to the Linux games supporting it. Here is hoping that someone will test this tool with ROTTR once it’s out on Linux!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
