YouTube’s ‘TheSpyHood’ has shared a video, showing Crysis 3, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Battlefield 5, Far Cry 5 and more running in glorious 8K resolution. Contrary to the previous 8K videos we’ve shared in the past, however, TheSpyHood only used High settings in order to run these games on the AMD Radeon VII.
Thanks to its 16GB of VRAM, we suspect that the AMD Radeon VII would be able to even run all the modern-day games in such ridiculously high resolutions on Ultra settings. However, it’s pretty obvious that the GPU is not powerful enough to offer enjoyable framerates in 8K on High settings (so yeah, Ultra settings in out of the question unless you have no trouble watching games running at 15-20fps).
Going into slightly more details, the AMD Radeon VII was able to run Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in 8K on High settings with framerates between 20-27fps. In Crysis 3, AMD’s graphics card was able to offer a smoother gaming experience as it was able to run it with framerates between 29-35fps (not ideal but it can at least almost offer a constant 30fps experience). In Resident Evil 2 Remake, AMD’s latest gaming graphics card was able to offer a 30fps experience, however the more demanding cut-scenes were dropping at 20fps.
As always, we find these 8K videos fascinating which is why we’ve decided to share it with you. Similarly to 4K gaming a few years ago, 8K gaming is actually achievable these days (provided you lower your settings and lock your framerate at 30fps). I’m pretty sure that things will significantly change once next-gen consoles hit the streets but until then, go ahead and take a look at the future of 8K gaming.
Kudos to our reader ‘OnnA’ for bringing this to our attention!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
