The Early Access phase for Chernobylite is a go and we were able to play-test this version and compare it with its alpha build. First things first; Chernobylite looks and runs better than its alpha version. However, the game is still unable to hit 4K/60fps on either High or Ultra settings on the NVIDIA RTX2080Ti.
For this 4K Performance Impressions, we used an Intel i9 9900K with 16GB of DDR4 at 3600Mhz. We’ve paired this machine with an NVIDIA RTX 2080Ti. We also used Windows 10 64-bit and the GeForce 436.48 driver. Do note that this isn’t a complete PC Performance Analysis. As always, we’ll have such an article when the game leaves Early Access and fully releases.
Chernobylite’s Early Access build comes with a built-in benchmark tool that perfectly reflects the game’s performance. This benchmark tool is new and it was not present in the Alpha version. Therefore, we’ve captured a video of it that you can find below.
The game’s alpha version ran with a minimum of 23fps and an average of 35fps in 4K on the NVIDIA RTX2080Ti. Thankfully, performance is way better in the Early Access build. Our RTX2080Ti was able to push a minimum of 35fps and an average of 47fps in 4K/Ultra. In 4K/High, we were able to hit a minimum of 41fps and an average of 55fps. On the other hand, we were able to get a constant 60fps experience at 2560×1440, even on Ultra settings.
Chernobylite also comes with more detailed graphics settings. The developers claimed that the Ultra settings are not final, and that even high-end PC systems may encounter performance issues. Therefore, we expect performance to improve in later versions. Unfortunately, though, the game’s Resolution Scale setting is not that great. Instead of offering a variety of values to choose from, it currently only has these options: 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0.
All in all, Chernobylite performs way better than its initial Kickstarter alpha demo. Obviously, and from what we’ve said so far, this does not mean that the game runs like a charm. As such, The Farm 51 still needs to further optimize it. Still, the game is in a better state than its Kickstarter demo, so that’s a great thing.
Enjoy!
