Following our Top 10 Worst Optimized PC Games of 2020, here is the list that most of you have been waiting for. Below you can find the PC games that, we believe, were the best/most optimized for the PC platform.
But what do we consider an optimized PC game? In our opinion, a game that is optimized for the PC is one that can look great and run smoothly on a wide range of PC configurations. We also take into account other “details“, like overall stability, mouse smoothing/acceleration, whether there are frame pacing issues, etc.
So, without further ado, here are our Top 10 Most Optimized PC Games of 2020.
10) F1 2020
F1 2020 performs extremely well on the PC platform. The game does not require a high-end PC system, and there are a few graphics settings via which you can improve performance. The only reason F1 2020 is not higher in the list, is because it looks almost the same as F1 2019. I’m pretty sure that there are minor differences, however, the game does not pack any major graphical improvements. Obviously, Codemasters re-used a lot of assets. So, while the game looks and runs great, it does not really bring anything new to the table.
9) Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot was a pleasant surprise. Powered by Unreal Engine 4, this game can run smoothly on a huge range of GPUs and CPUs. Thanks to its “anime-like” art style, the game also looks great. CyberConnect2 has implemented proper mouse and keyboard controls, and we did not experience any crashes or frame pacing issues. The only downside here is that by default the game is locked at 60fps. Thankfully, though, there is a workaround via which you can unlock the framerate.
8) Mafia Definitive Edition
Mafia Definitive Edition looks and runs great on the PC. The game can scale on more than four CPU cores/threads, even though it’s still using the DX11 API, and can run smoothly on a wide range of GPUs. This remake was built from the ground up, uses the Mafia 3 Engine, and runs better than Mafia 3. This was one of the best remakes we’ve seen to date, and everything in the game looks on par with what you’d expect to see in a modern-day/current-gen title.
7) Resident Evil 3 Remake
While Resident Evil 2 Remake was our most optimized PC game of 2019, Resident Evil 3 Remake falls in number 7. While the game still looks great and can run on a wide range of PC configurations, it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. It also suffers from the same issues that plagued RE2R (like the distant 30fps animations). In many cases, this could have been a DLC or expansion of RE2R, and that’s why it’s not higher on this list.
6) Ghostrunner
Ghostrunner runs incredibly well on the PC. Without Ray Tracing, the game can run smoothly on a variety of PC configurations. With Ray Tracing, RTX owners can enable DLSS 2.0 in order to improve overall performance. However, and even without Ray Tracing, the game looks lovely. Unfortunately, though, it packs small environments, and that’s why it’s not higher on this list. After all, it’s easier to run and optimize small levels than huge ones. We also did not experience any crashes or stability issues, and the game does not suffer from any mouse acceleration or smoothing issues.
5) Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remastered
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remastered looks and performs great on the PC platform, and can run smoothly on a wide range of PC configurations. The game does not suffer from any mouse smoothing or acceleration issues, and there are proper K&M on-screen prompts. Not only that, Beenox has added a FOV slider; something that the remaster of the first Modern Warfare was lacking. Similar to Mafia Definitive Edition, this is one of the best remakes we’ve seen to date.
4) Death Stranding
Death Stranding looks and performs incredibly well on the PC platform. The game does not require a high-end CPU or GPU, and can run on a wide range of PC systems. A lot of PC configurations will be able to run the game with 60fps at Max Details. Furthermore, DLSS 2.0 is doing an incredible job at eliminating jaggies, and we highly recommend using it in 4K. We also did not experience any mouse acceleration or smoothing issues, and there are proper K&M on-screen prompts. Not only that, but the game plays wonderfully with the mouse and keyboard, and we did not experience any “control” issues. This is a really solid PC product, so kudos to Kojima Productions.
3) Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Ori and the Will of the Wisps works like a charm on the PC, and looks absolutely beautiful. This is mainly due to its amazing art style, which is why it was not included in our Top 10 Best PC Games Graphics of 2020 (as there were more visually impressive games in 2020). Powered by the Unity Engine, this platformer can run with more than 100fps in 4K on an RTX2080Ti. Not only that, but it does not require a high-end CPU. Furthermore, its K&M controls are amazing (yes, I’ve finished the game with K&M and it was highly enjoyable).
2) Star Wars Squadrons
There is no doubt that Frostbite is one of the best modern-day engines. Star Wars Squadrons runs silky smooth on the PC, and it does not require a high-end CPU or GPU for gaming at 1080p/Ultra. The game also displays proper on-screen K&M prompts, and we did not experience any mouse acceleration issues or crashes. At launch, the game had a bug with high refresh rate monitors that, thankfully, EA Motive has fixed. EA Motive has also improved HOTAS and gamepads/joysticks support, and added support for TrackIR devices.
1) Doom Eternal
And we are pretty sure that most of you saw that coming. Powered by id Tech 7, Doom Eternal is the most optimized PC game of 2020. The game runs silky smooth and looks great on a huge number of PC configurations. It also offers a huge amount of graphics settings and customization options. Not only that, but we did not experience any mouse acceleration/smoothing issues, or any frame pacing issues. This is a rock-solid PC release, so kudos to id Software for delivering such a polished product.

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
