AMD has officially announced its latest RDNA2 graphics card, the AMD Radeon RX 6700XT. According to the red team, this new GPU will release on March 18th, will have a $479 MSRP, and will be available from both AMD and AIBs.
The AMD Radeon RX 6700XT features 40 Compute Units, 96MB Infinity Cache, 12GB of GDDR6 VRAM and will support AMD’s Smart Access Memory.
AMD has also shared the first gaming benchmarks for this graphics card. The red team claims that the AMD Radeon RX 6700XT is noticeably faster than the RTX2080 Super. Furthermore, this GPU can compete with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070.
AMD also claimed that thanks to its 12GB of GDDR6, this GPU will be future-proof. However, AMD falsely claimed that some games are requiring more than 10GB of VRAM. Specifically, the red team claimed that Black Ops Cold War and Horizon Zero Dawn require more than 10GB of VRAM. That’s not accurate though, as the RTX3080 (with its 10GB of GDDR6X) has no trouble at all running these games in 4K.
Anyway, this sounds like a good GPU. However, it remains to be seen whether there will be any GPU available at launch. After all, PC gamers cannot find – even to this date – an RX 6900XT or an RX 6800XT.
Lastly, AMD announced that its AMD Ryzen 3000 series CPUs now support Smart Access Memory.
