Risen was an amazing RPG and a true, spiritual successor to the Gothic series. Piranha Bytes proved that they can offer us an amazing and bug-less gaming experience, provided they’re given the time to polish their games, and we are pretty sure that a lot of PC gamers are looking forward to its sequel. However, you might not be pleased with what you’re about to hear, especially if you are a ‘console-hater’.
In an interview with RPGamer, Piranha Bytes’ Björn Pankratz revealed that the company is developing the game ony for the PC, meaning that the console development has been outsourced to another studio. What’s really disappointing though, is that the team decided to hold their horses – and not go all out – as Risen 2’s performance and design decisions were ‘limited’ by the console versions. And although Piranha Bytes was made famous for its PC games, Pankratz revealed that the console versions of Risen 2 are very important to them.
As Björn Pankratz told RPGamer:
“We are developing the game for PCs but the console versions are very important to us. We took the console versions into consideration from the beginning when we had to make performance and design decisions, and have been working in conjunction with the console development and overseeing that process to insure greater quality.”
We will not jump to early conclusions about Risen 2 and will definitely give Piranha Bytes the benefit of the doubt. There is no denying that they are talented, so we’ll have to wait and see what they have in store for all their PC fans.
Risen 2: Dark Waters is currently slated for a Q2 2012 release on current generation consoles and PC!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
