YouTube’s ‘Artur Giardi’ has shared a video, showcasing what a 2D-HD Remake of Final Fantasy 6 could look like. This concept video looks retro-cool, and we highly recommend watching it, especially if you are fans of the classic FF games.
But what is a 2D-HD Remake? Basically, HD-2D is what Square Enix used to describe the art style of Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy. In short, the developers use 2D sprites in a 3D world, and retain the art style of the original game. Basically, think of it as a pseudo-3D version of SNES games.
Do note that this is just a concept video and nothing more. Giardi is not developing a fan remake. Moreover, and from what we know so far, Square Enix is not working on such a 2D-HD Remake.
Anyway, this is something really cool so I had to share it with you. I’d also love to see some other 2D-HD Remake concept videos for other classic SNES JRPGs. Perhaps a Chrono Trigger Remake? Or an Earthbound Remake?
Enjoy!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
