In August 2022, we informed you about an amazing voxel mod for the first Doom game. This mod replaced all of the game’s 2D sprites with 3D voxels. And today, we are happy to report that a similar voxel mod for Doom 2 will release on August 1st.
Created by Cheello, Voxel Doom II will replace all monsters, weapons and items from the second Doom game with voxels. Thanks to this mod, this classic FPS will get an incredible 3D overhaul. And, similarly to its predecessor, Voxel Doom II will be using the GZDoom engine.
For those wondering, the Voxel Mod for the first Doom game is still incompatible with the Doom Path Tracing Mod. This sucks as the combination of these two mods would be a dream come true for all Doom die-hard fans. And, at this point, I don’t expect any possible collaboration between these two modders. I mean, it’s been a year and we haven’t heard anything about such a thing. Man, what a bummer.
Anyway, we’ll make sure to share its download link the moment the mod becomes available. Until then, you can go ahead and watch the following gameplay trailer for it.
Speaking of Doom mods, we also suggest taking a look at the following ones. Aliens Eradication TC is a must-have mod for all our Aliens fans. Doom RTX is yet another must-have mod as it introduces full path tracing effects to the game. Then we have Brutal Doom: Black Edition, a mod that attempts to bring Doom 3’s art style to the game. And lastly we have Schism which is a Doom/Hexen/Heretic mashup using Brutal Doom, as well as Bloom (a crossover between Blood and Doom).
Enjoy!
