A couple of days ago, we informed you about a fan-made remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX for PC. And, unfortunately, Nintendo has sent a letter to itch.io to remove it. As such, the game is no longer available for download.
The issue with the unofficial PC version of Zelda was that it had everything in it. Unlike other remakes or remasters, it didn’t need the original ROM file. This meant it was distributing copyrighted material. And yes, that’s most likely why Nintendo took action.
If this game needed the original ROM file, the user could have avoided it being taken down. That’s why the PC version of The Legend of Zelda – A Link to the Past is still around.
The PC remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX gave a cool new look to the much-loved classic. It mixed the feel of the original with modern PC enhancements. PC gamers could play it at high resolutions and framerates. Plus, it worked on widescreen monitors. And, you could zoom the map all the way out, which was a neat feature!
Since this unofficial PC remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX has already hit the Internet, you may find it on some torrent sites. Like always, we won’t allow links to them. So, don’t bother sharing any links to it. Still, if you are interested in it, you will be able to find it. It’s not that hard.
Now I don’t know whether Nintendo will hunt down other Zelda fan games. However, I suggest downloading this free 3D remake of The Legend of Zelda NES in Unreal Engine 4 while you still can. You never know what can happen in the next couple of months. And no, Nintendo won’t be able to take down CryZENx’s Ocarina of Time Remake in Unreal Engine 5.
So, there you have it. As with most free games, we recommend downloading them the moment we share them. And that’s precisely what you should have done with this Zelda PC game!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
