The Witcher World in TW3

You can now explore the world of the first The Witcher game in The Witcher 3 Next-Gen

CD Projekt RED has just released the REDkit modding tools for The Witcher 3, and its first mod just hit the Internet. This mod brings all the maps from the first The Witcher game to TW3, allowing you to explore its world.

As the modder noted, this is a fairly low-effort attempt at porting The Witcher maps via REDkit. There is a lot of room for improvement when it comes to improving the visuals of these maps. So, let’s hope that either AngryCatster, or some other modder, will continue working on them.

To be more precise, this mod combines the maps for Vizima Dike, Temple Quarter, Trade Quarter, and Old Vizima into one seamless level.

Now while you can explore most of the game’s world, there are some issues with this mod. For instance, it is very easy to fall out of bounds as the original game didn’t have much vertical mobility. Some geometry may look funky, and all materials are diffuse-only (meaning there are no normals or other PBR textures). Plus, some terrain textures are wrong.

So, for a “first attempt”, this is a cool mod. It will also allow those who haven’t played the first TW game to explore its world. As said, though, it still needs a lot of work.

You can download the mod from this link. At the end of the article, you can also find a video that showcases it in action. So, if you don’t want to download it, you can at least watch the video.

Speaking of The Witcher 3 Next-Gen, you may also want to take a look at these other mods for it. For instance, you can download a really cool first-person mod. Furthermore, the Characters Reworked Project improves the quality of over 100 characters. Yesterday, we shared a must-have gameplay overhaul mod. Let’s also not forget this mod that lets you kill most in-game NPCs. In December 2023, we shared this mod that restores content that was cut from all previous The Witcher games. Then we have the Witcher 3 Next-Gen Combat Redux Mod. Earlier this month, we shared a mod that attempted to remove the fake “hero” light from the game’s cut-scenes. Oh, and don’t forget this mod that allows you to ride a Griffin.

We also have some mods for those playing with Ray Tracing. The RTX Mirrors Mod adds proper reflections to the game’s mirrors. Then we have this mod that improves the fire effects via Ray Tracing Global Illumination. And finally, this mod fixes the Ray Tracing bleach issues.

Stay tuned for more!
