Intel Battlemage GPUs are not dead or canceled, first Xe2 architecture core details

After the disappointing launch of the Arc Alchemist GPUs, a lot were wondering whether the blue team would be abandoning its future GPU plans. However, the Intel Battlemage GPUs are not dead or canceled. And. earlier today, Intel shared the first Xe2 architecture core details. So, let’s take a look at them.

The new Intel Xe2 architecture will have 8 512-bit Vector Engines. 8 2048-bit XMX Engines, 64b atomic ops support and 192KB Shared L1$/SLM. Moreover, it will have SIMD16 native ALUs, meaning that it will have support for SIMD16 and SIMD32 ops.

In theory, this will improve overall game compatibility. This is huge as that was one of the areas that the Intel Arc GPUs lacked. And, for those wondering, the Xe2 will fully support Unreal Engine 5.

In terms of performance improvements, Xe2 will offer seven times better Compute Dispatch XI performance than the Arc Alchemist GPUs. Additionally, we can expect Xe2 to be over twelve times faster in Draw XI, and four times faster in Mesh Shader Dispatch.

Intel shared a lot of details, so go ahead and view the attached slides. I also suggest watching GamersNexus video. This video goes into more detail about the architecture core of Intel Xe2 Battlemage.

Finally, there is no ETA on when we can expect the discrete desktop GPUs. My gut says that a 2025 release date feels plausible, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
