AMD Adrenalin 24.9.1 Driver Released With Support for AFMF 2


In July 2024, AMD released a new beta version of its Fluid Motion Frames tech, AFMF 2. And yesterday, the red team released the AMD Adrenalin 24.9.1 driver which adds official support for its final version.

What’s cool with AFMF2 is that it resolves one of the biggest gripes I had with it. You see, AFMF1 was disabling Frame Generation during fast movements. This was a dealbreaker for me. And that’s exactly what AFMF2 aims to fix.

According to AMD, AFMF2 includes fast motion optimization. This helps AMD users enjoy smoother gameplay and higher FPS, even during fast action scenes, with more consistent frame generation. Plus, you can now turn on AFMF2 in any game that uses OpenGL, Vulkan, DirectX 11, or DirectX 12. That’s a huge deal. Because, right now, you can use AFMF2 in A LOT of PC games that do not support DLSS 3 or FSR 3.0.

AFMF 2 now also supports Radeon Chill. According to AMD, this will allow for a low-latency FPS cap. And that’s not all. AMD has added two new major features to AFMF 2. These are the Search Mode and the Performance Mode. So, let’s see what they do.

Search Mode helps make gameplay smoother by improving how “fallback” works in AFMF 2. The fallback occurs when AFMF frame generation is turned off briefly during fast-motion scenes to keep the image quality high. This could cause a bit of jitter, which affected how smooth the game felt.

On the other hand, the Performance Mode comes with three settings. These are Auto, Quality and Performance. Quality was the setting that AFMF 1 used. The new Performance setting reduces the overhead of AFMF 2 to help make high frame rate gaming experiences more achievable on a wider range of devices.

Finally, this new driver comes with all the improvements we saw in the AMD Adrenalin 24.20.11.01 driver. Therefore, it will provide an optimal gaming experience in games like God of War: Ragnarok, Final Fantasy 16 and Frostpunk 2.

  • AMD Radeon™ Anti-Lag 2 Vulkan® Support for Counter-Strike 2

    • AMD Radeon™ Anti-Lag 2 now supports the Vulkan® API, offering additional responsive gaming options. AMD Radeon™ Anti-Lag 2 introduces an in-game option to optimally pace frames, further reducing input lag on AMD RDNA™ architecture-based graphics products.
      • Users looking for a way to measure response time can use our Frame Latency Meter (FLM) or the built-in latency monitor in AMD Radeon™ Anti-Lag 2.
        •  Use the ALT+SHIFT+L hotkey to enable the Radeon Anti-Lag 2 Latency Monitor. Once activated, a small white chevron will appear in the top left corner of your display, indicating that it is enabled.
        • Use ALT+SHIFT+L again to cycle through the following Latency Monitor display options: No metrics, FPS only, FPS and latency (in ms), FPS and latency (in ms and frames), FPS and latency (in ms and frames) with a legend.
