Stop-motion cinematic action adventure, The Spirit of the Samurai, coming to PC on December 12th

Kwalee and Digital Mind have announced the release date for upcoming 2D stop-motion action adventure, The Spirit of the Samurai. The game will be coming to PC via Steam on December 12th. Moreover, a free playable demo will become available durint the Steam Next Fest event.

Kwalee has also shared a new video, showcasing the game’s three characters, combat, upgrades and more. So, make sure to watch it as it will give you a pretty good idea of what you can expect from it.

In The Spirit of the Samurai, players take on the role of Takeshi, a brave Japanese samurai who must defend his village from dangerous enemies called Oni. He’s not alone, though—his loyal warrior cat, Chisai, and a small but tough forest spirit called a Kodama are there to help. So, get ready to fight against creatures like tengu (bird-like monsters), undead warriors, and the frightening spider-woman, Jorogumo. All of these enemies come from Japanese mythology.

Players will explore a beautifully designed world full of Japanese mythology and folklore. You’ll journey through destroyed villages, dark mountain caves, lonely graveyards, and other eerie places. Along the way, you’ll fight yokai (spirits), undead monsters, and demons. All of these creatures are shown in a detailed, stop-motion style, similar to the classic work of Ray Harryhausen.

In case you’re wondering, yes. You’ll be able to control all three of the aforementioned characters. Each of them will interact with the world in a different way, from intense sword combat to precise platforming and exploration.

It’s also worth noting that the publisher has shared the game’s PC system requirements. PC gamers will at least need an AMD Athlon X4 or Intel i5 4460 with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 950 or AMD R7 370. The game will also only require 8GB of free disk space.

The devs recommend using an AMD Ryzen 3 or Intel i5 Skylake with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD RX 570. And, although we don’t know the framerate, settings and resolution these PC specs target, we can assume that the game will run on a huge range of PC configurations.

Enjoy!
