A solo dev showcases what Silent Hill 2 could look like in Unity Engine

Now here is something cool. The developer behind Backrooms: The Project has shared a video, showcasing what Silent Hill 2 could look like in Unity Engine. This looks bloody amazing. So, be sure to watch the video after the jump.

For those unaware, Backrooms: The Project is an immersive first-person found footage horror adventure game. In this game, players will explore the different levels of a mysterious liminal dimension known as the Backrooms. As such, they’ll have to find and utilize items to aid them in their escape.

Now the bad news is that the dev has only shared the video on Twitter/X. As such, it’s really of low quality. That’s a bummer as I’d love to see a higher-quality version of it. The good news is that it looks incredible. At least for a solo fan project.

And, you want to know what’s funny here? This “fan remake” does not suffer from any stutters. Heh, I guess the dev knows how to make an impression. Take notes Bloober Team.

This fan remake of SH2 in Unity Engine has managed to retain the art style of the original. It doesn’t look as advanced as the official remake. Its low quality can also hide a lot of visual issues or shortcomings. However, on its own, it looks awesome. So, kudos to the dev for creating something like that.

This isn’t the only fan remake of a game in Backrooms: The Project. In April 2024, we shared a video showcasing the iconic Doom E1M1 map in it. If you haven’t watched it, I highly recommend doing so. Similar to this SH2 recreation, it looks fantastic.

To be honest, I’d love to see these two maps being included in Backrooms: The Project as hidden levels. Now THAT would be an awesome easter egg. So, let’s hope that the dev will use them wisely.

Speaking of Silent Hill 2, Bloober Team hasn’t released any patch for it as of yet. As I’ve already said, there isn’t ANY mod that can reduce or fix the game’s traversal stutters. However, there are some cool mods that you can try. For instance, you can enable NVIDIA Ray Reconstruction for better visuals. You can also remove the 30fps cap from the in-engine cutscenes. And then we have the DLSS 3 Frame Generation Mod. Oh, and if you are not interested in a paid mod, you can force AMD FSR 3.0 Frame Generation. Just use the guide from this article to enable it.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
