Gaijin Entertainment has released the Firebirds Update for War Thunder that adds support for ray-traced ambient occlusion and reflections. Alongside the RT effects, the devs have added numerous new graphical enhancements. So, let’s take a closer look at them.
According to the press released, the most significant graphic improvements are the ones that utilise the ray tracing technology. The game now features physically correct and pixel-precise shadows from the sun. So, owners of high-end GPUs will see realistic shadows from all dynamic lights, like explosions, muzzle flashes and the like.
As said, War Thunder also now supports ray traced ambient occlusion and ray traced reflections. All of these effects are available on NVIDIA GPUs and can be enabled or disabled individually. Ray tracing effects are especially visible at locations with lots of mirror surfaces, such as on the Alaska and Sun City maps.
Moreover, the devs have redesigned many other graphic effects. For example, the mud from under the wheels flies more realistically, the moment of afterburner activation on jet aircraft and the afterburner exhaust itself now look more physically correct, the effects of missile explosions in the air have been reworked, the effect of burning fuel spilling from a destroyed tank has been improved, and abandoned cars are now beautifully crumpled when they are crushed by armored vehicles. Finally, War Thunder now supports the motion blur effect, which is also optional.
And that’s not all. The game now supports DirectX 12, and it has new anti-aliasing options. So, PC gamers will now have access to AMD FSR 3.1, NVIDIA DLAA, Intel XeSS and TSR. Additionally, the game now has a new graphic settings menu.
All in all, this is an amazing update that will improve the game’s visuals. Not only that but the Firebirds Update brings new content to the game.
Like always, Steam will download this latest update the next time you launch its client. Below you can also find a video that showcases the new graphical effects. So, be sure to check it out as it will give you an idea of what you can expect from it.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
