YouTube’s ‘Leo Torres’ has shared an incredible video showing a realistic remake of Dawnstar from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in Unreal Engine 5.5. This video will give you an idea of what a modern take on Skyrim could look like. Or should I say a next-gen Skyrim as I don’t expect PS5 and Xbox Series X to be able to handle something like this. So, be sure to check it out.
This video is part of a project to show what Tamriel’s cities would look like if they were more realistic and true to the lore. Dawnstar now has 16 times more detail than it did in Skyrim. The goal of this project was to imagine how a city of this size would look in real life.
So, Torres has rendered out this scene in Unreal Engine 5.5 on an NVIDIA RTX 3090. To create it, he used a mix of third-party models and custom assets. Those assets were modeled in Blender and textured in Mixer. Moreover, he used Nanite for all models and foliage. Plus, we have Lumen for global illumination and reflections.
As you will see, this fan remake of Skyrim’s Dawnstar in UE5.5 looks spectacular. This is exactly what you’d expect from a next-gen remake of Skyrim. And as a Skyrim fan, this video put a smile on my face.
Sadly, this project is not available for download. In other words, Torres has created this for portfolio purposes. That’s a bummer but hey. It is what it is.
I also recommend watching the other Skyrim UE5 videos the artist has shared. So far, Torres has recreated Markarth, Blackreach, Whiterun, Solitude, Winterhold, Falkreath, Riften, Windhelm and Morthal.
Since we’re talking about The Elder Scrolls series, there’s a new rumor going around about an Oblivion remake in Unreal Engine 5. According to it, Bethesda might announce this remake in January 2025. But remember, it’s just a rumor. So, don’t get your hopes up too high just yet. Let’s wait and see.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you should also check out the following fan projects. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. A few months ago, we also shared an amazing remake of Toy Story 2. Then there’s this cool fan remake of Metal Gear Solid. Let’s also not forget this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Oh, and don’t miss the Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5; it’s pretty impressive. In February 2024, we also shared fan remakes of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and GTA 3, as well as an Uncharted fan game. We also have a fan remaster of Unreal Gold in UE5. You should also watch the full-on remake video for Final Fantasy 9, and this HD-2D Fan Remake for Xenogears.
Need for Speed Carbon and Tony Hawk’s Underground have also received some cool remakes. Oh, and there is a fan remake of Tomb Raider The Last Revelation, featuring Angelina Jolie and Christoph Walz. And if that’s not enough, there are fan remakes for Star Wars: Republic Commando, Death Stranding, Fallout 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Fallout 4, Resident Evil 1, and Silent Hill 3’s Lakeside Amusement Park. There is also this Studio Ghibli-like teaser for Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5. So, lots of UE5 fan remakes, right? Well, since they’re all really cool, we suggest giving them a watch.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
