At CES 2025, AMD officially revealed the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, and shared its first gaming benchmarks. According to the red team, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D will be 8% faster than the 7950X3D, and 20% faster than the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K.
AMD has tested over 40 games at 1080p with High Settings. So, let’s see what this new CPU brings to the table.
At Counter-Strike 2, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D can be 58% and 24% faster than the 7950X3D and the 285K, respectively. Compared to Intel’s offering, the new AMD CPU can be up to 64% faster in Watch Dogs Legion. It can also be way faster in other games like Space Marine 2 and Far Cry 6.
Far Cry 6 is a great example here as it relies heavily on one single CPU core/thread. So, from the looks of it, this will be at least as good as the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
For those wondering, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D will have two CCDs. Similarly to the 7950X3D, only one CCD will have 3D V-Cache. That’s a bummer as a lot were hoping AMD to offer 3D V-Cache in both CCDs. Sadly, this won’t happen.
As always, I strongly recommend waiting for some third-party gaming benchmarks. After all, AMD may have cherry-picked these games. And how does it fare against the Intel Core i9 14900K?
Nevertheless, these gaming benchmarks are pretty good. So yeah, it looks like AMD will retain its crown for the best gaming CPU. Realistically, I recommend an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D for gaming. So, my guess is that this new CPU will not interest most of you.
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D will become available in Q1 2025. The red team claimed that it will share more specs and pricing details in the coming days.
