Now this is what I call an impressive tech demo. 3D artist Tor Frick has created an amazing sci-fi lab environment with only two textures. Frick used Epic’s Unreal Development Kit (UDK) and tried to push texture-reusage, without having to rely on alot of different materials. According to the artist, the entire scene uses 2 256*512 textures, one for diffuse and masks, and one for normalmap. The end result is gorgeous and shows how easily artists can overcome technical limitations. In fact, this lab environment will remind you of those in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The difference between them is that this tech demo uses only two textures, whereas Square Enix’s game used a lot of different textures. Simply amazing!
