Bohemia Interactive has provided us with some additional information about the arrest of its two employees. According to the company, Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar visited the island as tourists and took photographs and videos in public areas, like most tourists do. These included a short video as they drove through the main road passing around the international airport, where in one short part of the video off in the distance some hangars and other buildings of the complex can be seen.
Bohemia emphasized that its employees did not enter any military area and did not take any pictures of any military objects to be used in Arma 3.
In addition, Bohemia stated that the in-game Limnos is close to completion, and it’s far from an identical replication of the real place. It was heavily modified to fit the game’s backstory, a purely fictional 2035 setting. It was rescaled to only 75% of the real island, and it does not attempt to display any real world military installations situated on the island of Lemnos.
Question now is – how come these guys got arrested? As said and before, there isn’t any kind of martial law in Greece and we strongly believe that the police did not arrest them for taking photographs or videos in public places. Moreover, we do know that the police would not examine their cameras as they don’t have the right to do so. The only thing the police would do – in such a situation – is to inform them that it’s prohibited to take photographs of those areas and nothing more.
Bohemia has also launched a community support website for Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar. The website contains information about their arrest, links to news reports and an on-going petition to raise voices in protest at the arrest and charges.
