Square Enix wanted to ship 5-6 million copies of Tomb Raider & 4.5 to 5 million of Hitman: Absolution

Tomb Raider v2
Sweet Mary and Jesus. Last week, Square Enix revealed some sales numbers for Tomb Raider, Hitman: Absolution and Sleeping Dogs. Those numbers were described as estimates sales numbers, however it seems that they were the real numbers. Square Enix’s estimated numbers were higher than those reported, and according to a Japanese PDF report (coming straight from Square Enix), the company wanted to ship 5-6 million copies of Tomb Raider, 4.5-5 million copies of Hitman: Absolution and 2-2.5 million copies of Sleeping Dogs.
These numbers are as high as they can possibly get. At least for Tomb Raider and Hitman: Absolution. Yes, there is a huge fanbase for those two games, however it’s shocking to see that Square Enix anticipated sales of 5-6 million for Tomb Raider’s first month.
In case you’ve been wondering, Tomb Raider has managed to sell 3.4 million copies, Hitman: Absolution has sold – so far –  3.6 million units and Sleeping Dogs has solded 1.75 million units.
According to the publisher, and despite their scores and reviews, all three of those titles have not hit their initial goals. Therefore, it will be interesting to see what will happen with those franchises, and whether the company will invest on more triple-A titles.
We’ve also included below the previous sales numbers for the Tomb Raider and Hitman franchises (special thanks to NeoGAF’s member ‘Nirolak’).
