MachineGames confirmed to Gamespot that its upcoming Wolfenstein game won’t feature any multiplayer mode at all. Oh yeah, Wolfenstein: The New Order will be a single player game only, something that was a big surprise for everyone. After all, most of us didn’t think that Bethesda would be willing to publish a new Wolfenstein title that does not feature MP, especially when this title is coming from a relatively unknown studio.
Not only that, but MachineGames thinks highly of this franchise. As creative director Jens Matthies said:
“It’s such a huge part of video game legacy. If there’s a video game museum, Wolfenstein is in the first room. It’s the start of the wave that shaped the world of gaming.”
In other news, Warren Spector made some comments yesterday about Wolfenstein: The New Order’s announcement. We didn’t feel the need to share those comments, and it seems that Warren Spector felt the need to apologize to MachineGames.
In short, Warren Spector is kind of disappointed with the latest games, as he thinks that most of them are generic. And since Wolfenstein was the game that triggered those comments, a lot criticized Warren for his behavior.
Warren apologized to MachineGames and insisted that there isn’t a lot of variety in today’s games.
Warren concluded:
“To “journalists” who mischaracterized what I said and made assumptions about my motives for saying it, um… maybe stick to the facts… ask me what my motivation was before posting made-up stuff… certainly don’t put words in my mouth that I didn’t say (like “Wolfenstein represents everything Spector thinks is wrong with gaming” – where did that come from?).”

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
