Our reader ‘randir14’ has informed us about an upcoming fan-made remake of the original Metal Gear game. Developed as a mod for Alien Swarm – or at least that’s how the game is categorized on ModDB’s database – this remake will be developed by Outer Heaven. What’s interesting here is that the team has already contacted Konami about it, with the latter giving its blessing and approval for such a thing.
Here is what the team had to say about Konami’s blessing:
“A few days ago, we received word from KONAMI that said they were happy for us to go-ahead with out remake of the classic MSX game, METAL GEAR, aslong as we don’t abuse the copyright issues (ie make a profit from the project/take donations). We were then informed to keep them up to date with any updates and feedback received as and when the game is released.”
In case you’re wondering, the first Metal Gear game was released on MSX. In short, this is not a remake of Metal Gear Solid that was released later on Playstation 1. Outer Heaven is basically going back to the franchise’s roots, and aims to recreate that – ancient – first Metal Gear game.
It’s pretty interesting that Konami has given the green light to this project, especially after all those C&D letters that teams have been receiving lately from SEGA, Square Enix and Capcom.
Enjoy!
