Fun fact: Valve promised that Team Fortress 2 would be receiving matchmaking functionalities a year ago. Well, it appears that it took the company a while but finally; Team Fortress 2 now features proper matchmaking mechanics. Valve released a new update for Team Fortress 2 that not only adds matchmaking, but also a Competitive mode.
This latest update also introduces three new community maps (Sunshine, Metalworks and Swiftwater), as well as four new taunts.
As Valve noted, with Competitive Mode, every win (and every loss) counts.
“You’ll be competing against opponents of similar skill level in structured and progressive play. Your match-to-match performance will determine how you rank up (or down). And because you’ll be working hard to earn your ranks, we’ll be working hard to protect their value.”
In case people abandon matches, they will be automatically receiving losses. And in case disconnect from your match, the game will prompt you to rejoin your in-progress match, otherwise it will reward you with a loss.
Do note that Competitive Mode will require a premium TF2 Account.
Have fun!
