Reflect is a Portal-clone that is created by students of the IGAD program, a game development course of the NHTV University of Applied Sciences in Breda, The Netherlands. And it’s funny because this indie game, showcases the future of PC graphics. We have known for some time that ray tracing and global illumination would be the two ground-breaking ‘features’ in future graphics and we are excited to finally see ray-tracing in real-time. The game uses an in-house engine called, Brigade Engine, and comes with a path tracer for rendering. Make no mistake though, Reflect is quite demanding but damn does it look sexy. Ray-tracing is as ground-breaking as iD Software’s real-time dynamic lighting that was showcased in Doom 3. I seriously can’t believe that this cover of Battlefield 3’s main theme has passed unnoticed. And you can bet your ass that everyone would be talking about it in case it was done by a girl. Bad news: Aliens: Colonial Marines was supposed to be released this Spring and is now delayed to Fall 2012. Good news: SEGA has released a new drooling cinematic teaser trailer for it. The game is developed by Gearbox and I’ll be honest with you; the gameplay footage that was shown last year was underwhelming and generic as hell. After watching this new cinematic of The Witcher 2’s enhanced edition, I can safely say that graphics do matter. Sure, everyone prefers gameplay over graphics but we wouldn’t be using SLI and Crossfire systems if we didn’t want the extra eye-candy, right? And oh boy, I can’t wait till we get this kind of in-game visuals. Perhaps the next generation of consoles will help us achieve something like that?
