Modder ‘maikel’ has released a new CryEngine 3 video that shows off what ‘natural lighting’ would look like in a video-game. The modder has been looking at how light works in the real world and how this can be translated in a game engine and his research is designed to answer: a) How does direct light, indirect light and atmospheric effects work in the real world and b) How can this be translated into a game engine. Ubisoft has released a new trailer for their action tactical third person shooter game, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, which shows off the game’s Single Player campaign mode. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier will launch in the UK on May 25, 2012. The game will be available for X360 and PS3, and for Windows PC at a later date. Unknown Worlds has released a new trailer for Natural Selection 2, in which the Onos, marine jetpacks and new “mineshaft” map are shown for the first time. Natural Selection 2 is a standalone immersive, online FPS that pits aliens against humans in a strategic and action-packed struggle for survival. Two teams of up to 16 players face off with unique abilities in dynamic, evolving environments that change as you play. Perfect World Entertainment has released a new trailer for one of the new maps that is available on their free-to-play FPS game, Blacklight: Retribution. Blacklight Retribution promises to set the new standard for free-to-play shooters, by fully leveraging Unreal 3 technology and implementing DirectX 11 to give gamers cutting-edge graphics that will blow away expectations as well as minds. Deep Silver and Piranha Bytes today released the third episode of the six part making-of series that will become available over the course of the next months until the release. In this installment the developers from Piranha Bytes speak about the new animation system that was created for Risen 2. Focus Home Interactive has released a new trailer for their upcoming Game of Thrones RPG that brings us to the troubled waterside town of Riverspring and Sarwyck Keep, the home of its ruling family. A vacant lordship and civil unrest greet Alester Sarwyck, one of the game’s two main characters, as he returns home after a fifteen-year self-imposed exile. He arrives as the town mourns the passing of his father, the elder Lord Sarwyck, forcing Alester to consider reclaiming rule of Riverspring and restoring order to his lordship. This is simply too good to pass by. AMD has released a DX11 tech demo for its new GPU 7900 series that looks phenomenal. The tech demo is a proof-of-concept technology, with the aim to demonstrate certain rendering methods at run-time.The two main points here are the use of hardware managed virtual texturing (PRT) and? forward rendering pipeline with compute shader based light occlusion, that allows application of hardware MSAA by avoiding the pitfalls of the deferred rendering. BioWare has unveiled today the cast for 2012’s first blockbuster game, Mass Effect 3. The ensemble will see the return of fan favorites, including Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man, Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale as Male and Female Shepard and will introduce Freddie Prinze, Jr. as James Vega, a marine who will help Commander Shepard take Earth back. Wollay has released a new video for his upcoming indie, voxel-based exploration RPG, Cube World. This video shows some changes that Wollay made to the combat system. There are no more combo points but an energy bar called ‘spirit’. Each attack generates spirit points (SP) with which players can unleash a finishing move. In addition, the finishing move depends on the player’s weapons. Cube World looks lovely and could be one of the best indie games of 2012. Check out its new footage after the jump!
