Earlier this week, we informed you about an upcoming lighting overhaul mod for Dark Souls 2. And today, we are happy to report that this mod, called Scholar of the Second Sin Visual Overhaul, is available for download.
This mod adds shadow casting to bonfires, grass, light fixtures, and almost everything else in the game. Moreover, it increases the quality of grass in numerous areas. Not only that but fromsoftserve has added torches to the loot pool for more enemies. And lastly, the modder has removed unneeded light sources that weren’t connected to a light fixture, making areas look a bit darker and more atmospheric.
Overall, this lighting overhaul mod brings Dark Souls 2 closer to its initial style. You know, before FromSoftware downgraded its lighting system. As such, we highly recommend downloading it from here. This mod also comes with fromsoftserve’s HD Texture Pack.
It’s worth noting that this mod is based on, and requires, the Lighting Engine Mod. The modder has provided an installation video that you can find below, so be sure to watch it.
As we’ve already reported, the Lighting Engine Mod is not related to the Graphics Lighting Overhaul Mod. That mod had a lot of potential but there is still no ETA on when it will come out. And, at this point, the team behind the Lighting Engine Mod may have already surpassed it.
Lastly, the Lighting Engine Mod Team is also working on a new HD Texture Pack for Dark Souls 2. Thus, we’ll soon have two HD Texture Packs to choose from for this Souls game. This is really exciting news, and the first screenshots of this upcoming pack look promising.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
