Final Fantasy 16 pre-rendered cutscenes

Final Fantasy 16 finally gets 60fps pre-rendered cut-scenes

One of my biggest gripes with Final Fantasy 16 was its 30fps cut-scenes. And while we got a mod that could unlock the in-engine cut-scenes, all of the pre-rendered cinematics were still at 30fps. Well, not anymore as someone has re-rendered all those cut-scenes at 60fps.

To achieve these 60fps cut-scenes, modder “tenshiken” used AI tools. And, to be honest, I’m glad he did. The end result is great and it will greatly enhance your gaming experience.

At this point, I don’t know why SE did not use AI tools to do this exact thing. I mean, a lot of studios are starting to use AI for some really ridiculous stuff. So here is an idea dear devs. Instead of using AI to create new dialogues or new art, use it to enhance what is already in the game. Use it for higher-res textures. Use it to remove audio compression. Or use it to improve your pre-rendered cutscenes.

Anyway, you can go ahead and download the mode from this link. Do note that you will still need FFXVIFix for this to work properly. However, the modder suggests disabling the Cutscene Frame Generation setting.

Last week, Square Enix released the first PC patch for Final Fantasy XVI. Sadly, though, that was mainly a hotfix update. In other words, it didn’t bring any major performance improvements. It also did not add support for ultra-wide PC monitors. Thus, PC gamers will still have to use the FFXVIFix Mod.

To be honest, with FFXVIFix and these 60fps cutscenes, PC gamers can fully enjoy the game. Well, that is if you own a high-end PC system. FF16 does no longer suffer from major stutters. And, since we now have proper 60fps cutscenes, the transition between the in-engine and pre-rendered cinematics will be smooth.

Sadly, tenshiken did not share a YT video to showcase any of these 60fps scenes. This is a bummer as you can’t see the benefits of 60fps (unless you download the pack).

Another interesting workaround is this one. If you have the Lossless Scaling app, you can enable Frame Generation which appears to work incredibly well in FF16. From what I could see, Lossless Scaling will also double the framerate of all pre-rendered cut-scenes.

In my opinion, it’s better to use these new 60fps cut-scenes than a Frame Generation solution.

Have fun!
