Red Dead Redemption Remastered has just been released on PC, and its first must-have mod is already available for download. This mod will unlock the framerate, allowing you to play the game at framerates over 144FPS.
Going into more details, this mod sets the 144FPS setting to have an upper limit of 1000FPS. Since most PCs won’t be able to hit 1000FPS, it basically means that the framerate is now completely unlocked.
I’ve tested the mod and I can confirm it works. Plus, there aren’t any speed or physics issues when playing at framerates higher than 144FPS. Everything appears to be working correctly.
Now I don’t know why Rockstar has decided to lock the framerate. I mean, I could not find any glitches when gaming even with 200FPS. So, it’s not like 200FPS breaks the game’s speed or anything like that. Not that 144FPS is a bad option. However, at 1080p or 1440p, I’m certain that a lot of people wouldn’t mind hitting as high FPS as their machines are capable of.
Anyway, you can go ahead and download the mod from this link. To install it, you’ll simply have to extract the ZIP file into the main RDR folder. Also note that you’ll have to select the 144FPS setting. If you don’t, the mod won’t work. At the end of the article, you can also find a video for it.
Speaking of RDR on PC, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed by the default textures. Most, if not all, of them look blurry. So, I really hope someone will release a 4K Texture Pack for it. This is something that the game desperately needs.
I’ve also heard reports about some performance issues on older PC systems. For what it’s worth, we didn’t have any major issues with our main PC system. However, the game does appear to be CPU-bound, even at 4K on high-end CPUs. We’ll talk more about it in a separate article.
It’s also worth noting that RDR had a peak of 9K concurrent players at launch. So, I’m curious to see whether this number will go higher this weekend. Let’s not forget that the game is priced at $50. This price is too high for this remaster. At least in my opinion.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
