Modder ‘protoBelisarius’ has released a 32GB AI-enhanced 4K Texture Pack for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. This pack aims to overhaul the game’s textures and retain their original art style.
Now what’s interesting here is how protoBelisarius tried to avoid the artifacts that the AI techniques introduce. The modder used GAN-based upscalers as a starting point and then used a second pass of img2img to guide the upscaled texture.
“With this sd kind of redraws the textures in the style of the material I input, but only with very slight variations. This preserves the original pattern but erases almost any upscaling artefact and gives each texture their unique look, not the samey upscaled look.”
In order to showcase the newly improved textures, the modder shared the following comparison screenshots. To be honest, though, I’d prefer a comparison video.
But anyway, those interested can download this 4K Texture Pack from here. Do note that this is a WIP project, meaning that it does not cover all of the game’s textures.
Lastly, and speaking of Morrowind, you can give Morrowind Rebirth 6.2 a go. You can also check out TES3MP 0.8.1 which adds support for multiplayer and VR. And then we have Tamriel Rebuilt which adds two new expansions & 200 quests.
Enjoy!
