Remember the Path Tracing Mod for Dragon’s Dogma 2? Well, good news for all our Resident Evil fans as you can also use it to enable Path Tracing in all the latest RE games.
To make Path Tracing work, you’ll need to get EXXXcellent’s mod, which adds extra graphics choices. Then, you use Praydog’s REFramework to add the mod to the RE games.
- Download the Graphics Suite ALPHA Includes Path Tracing and HD Clouds Mod
- Download the latest nightly build REFramework here.
- Then place dinput8.dll in the game folder where the exe is at.
- After that, launch the game and on REFramework graphics tab, you should able to Enable Ray Tracing Tweak.
To show what Path Tracing can offer in the RE games, Reddit user JoHien posted some screenshots for comparison. On the left, you’ve got the regular version, and on the right, you’ve got the one with Path Tracing.
Now contrary to Dragon’s Dogma 2, the RE games do not use a real-time dynamic Time of Day system. As such, Capcom was able to include an amazing GI in its games. So, as we can see, the biggest benefits of Path Tracing are its more realistic shadows and reflections. Plus, it gets rid of the “hero light” behind the main character.
Sadly, though, some objects are not being affected by the Path Tracing lighting in any way. That’s an issue that was also present in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Check out this comparison. On the path-traced image, you can clearly see the door and grass lacking shadows. This results in a flat and unrealistic image.
In conclusion, Path Tracing can make the RE games look better, but sometimes it might not work so well. But hey, it’s still pretty cool and worth checking out if you’re interested. Just don’t expect huge changes as Capcom already did a fantastic job with the Resident Evil games!
