Amazon has released a brand new beta version of its Lumberyard Engine. According to the company, Lumberyard Beta 1.12 adds over 400 updates, including a new Fur Shader, Gems for rain, lightning, water, and snow, plus updates to Script Canvas and the Text-to-Speech Gem.
Lumberyard is available to everyone, and you can go ahead and download this new beta version from here. Lumberyard is free, with no seat licenses, royalties, or subscriptions required. With Amazon Lumberyard, you only pay standard AWS fees for the AWS services you choose to use.
Lumberyard is a free, cross-platform AAA game engine deeply integrated with AWS and Twitch – with full source code provided. And while Lumberyard was originally based on CRYENGINE, Amazon has overhauled over 50% of the original code base.
Lumberyard Beta 1.12 features a Fur Shader via which you can create Short-Medium Length Fur, new components for the Component Entity System, Water Gem to create Bodies of Water, Visibility Gem to create Indoor Areas, new Script Canvas features, new Cloud Canvas features and new UI Editor features.
In order to celebrate this release, Amazon has also released a new video for Lumberyard that you can watch below!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
