Avowed and Monster Hunter Wilds may support 60fps only on PC

It appears that two highly anticipated triple-A games may support 60fps (and higher framerates) only on the PC. These two games are Avowed and Monster Hunter Wilds. So, from the looks of it, PC gamers will get the best experience in them.

Let’s start with Avowed. Obsidian themselves stated that they are targeting 30fps on Xbox Series X and S. Right now, they have no plans to support a 60fps mode on consoles. So, those who want to play this new RPG at 60fps (or higher) will have to play it on PC.

Similarly, Monster Hunter Wilds appears to be locked at 30fps on consoles. Its Gamescom 2024 Demo did not have a Performance Mode. So, just like Dragon’s Dogma 2, we can assume that MHW will run at 30fps on both PS5 and Xbox Series X. At least at launch.

Now if things are similar to what we saw in DD2, there might be a “performance” mode. That mode will most likely have an uncapped framerate, with the framerate hovering between 30fps and 60fps. However, I wouldn’t really call this a 60fps experience. I mean, you can only get 60fps if you stare at the sky or the ground. In real gameplay situations, you’re mostly looking at 40-45fps.

To be honest, I’m not surprised by any of this. We already know how taxing Unreal Engine 5 can be. So, my guess is that Obsidian is using Lumen in order to enhance the game’s graphics, without any fallback. Hilariously, the devs said that the game does not need 30fps because it’s a… first-person single-player game. And that’s total bullcrap. But hey, we all know the real reason why the game will run with 30fps on Xbox.

Monster Hunter Wilds is the second open-world game using the RE Engine. This engine works really well for smaller, more controlled games, like Resident Evil. But when it comes to open-world games, it struggles to run smoothly at high frame rates. We saw this before with Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Anyway, I’ve also included below a new gameplay video for Avowed. This video shows 30 minutes of gameplay footage from its Gamescom 2024 demo. So, be sure to check it out.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
