3D artist Alden Filion, who has worked in some triple-A games like Battlefield 4, Crackdown 3 and Lost Planet 3, has released a new Unreal Engine 4 ray tracing tech demo. This tech demo was created for the Nvidia DXR Spotlight contest, and it looks really cool.
UE4 Diode is basically a short third-person action/melee game that takes advantage of real-time ray tracing. Players can explore a castle, solve a simple puzzle and fight some enemies.
Now you should not expect much from this tech demo, so I suggest tempering your expectations. Still, it’s really cool witnessing some fan-made ray tracing tech demos.
For all RTX fans out there that want more tech demos, back in June, we shared the tech demo for Attack from Outer Space. Not only that but in March 2019, we also shared a tech demo from Opus Visual.
In order to showcase this ray tracing tech demo , Filion released a video that you can find below. I’m pretty sure that those not owning a Turing GPU will find it quite interesting. I’m certain it will not sell you on buying a brand new GPU, however, it’s at least a cool demo.
Those with an NVIDIA Turing GPU can download the tech demo from here.
Have fun and kudos to our reader Metal Messiah for bringing this to our attention!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
