2K Games has released BioShock: The Collection on the PC and owners of the first two BioShock games have received their remastered versions for free. Unfortunately, though, it appears that those remasters suffer from some issues that affected the original games. Thankfully, PC players can fix most of them.
Before continuing, make sure to change every file you edit (after you’ve done the changes) to “Read Only”, otherwise the game may reset these changes.
The game appears to be suffering from mouse sensitivity and mouse acceleration issues. In order to fix them, you’ll have to edit two .ini files.
Mouse Sensitivity:
- Go to folder -> C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\BioShockRemastered\Build\Final and open DefUser.ini
- Also go to C:\Users\ “YOURUSERNAME” \AppData\Roaming\BioshockHD\Bioshock and open User.ini
- Find: “IF_MOUSE_LOOK_ENABLED Axis aMouseX Speed=2500.0” and “IF_MOUSE_LOOK_ENABLED Axis aMouseY Speed=2500.0”
- Change them to whatever value you want
Mouse Acceleration
- Go to folder AppData/BioshockHD/
- Open Bioshock.ini
- Find ReduceMouseLag and DoubleBufferMouseLag and set them to false.
- Open user.ini located in the same folder
- Find the section [Engine.PlayerInput] and add these commands, directly below it: MouseSmoothingMode=0 and MouseAccelThreshold=0
In order to adjust the field of view, you’ll have to do the following:
- Go to the folder C:\Users\ “YOURUSERNAME” \AppData\Roaming\BioshockHD\Bioshock
- Open User.ini
- Find the section for the Fkeys (F11 or 12) and input: SetFOV xx. For example you can set “F11=SetFOV 100”
Here are some additional fixes for surround sound and 21:9 resolutions.
Enable 5.1 and EAX:
- Go to folder C:\Users\”YOURUSERNAME” \AppData\Roaming\BioshockHD\Bioshock\
- Open Bioshock.ini
- Conftrol+F to search for : SpeakerMode=
change to: SpeakerMode=SM_5_1- Directly Below set: SpeakerModeValue=5 [ optional ]
- For EAX, conftrol+F bEAXEnabled= and set it to: bEAXEnabled=True
21:9 Monitor Fix
- Go to folder C:\Users\”YOURUSERNAME” \AppData\Roaming\BioshockHD\Bioshock\
- Open Bioshock.ini
- Find the [WinDrv.WindowsClient] heading and set your manual resolution

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
