Capcom has just removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech from Monster Hunter Rise, and replaced it with the Enigma DRM. This is good and bad news. The good news is that the Enigma DRM is not as intrusive as Denuvo. The bad news is that it broke compatibility with the Steam Deck.
Now contrary to some reports, the Enigma DRM has not broken compatibility with the mods that came out for MHR. In other words, almost all the mods that are currently available will still work with it. So, if you’re playing a modded version of Rise, you should be fine. That is unless some mods inject DLLs into the game. Because, according to reports, the mods that inject DLLs into the game may not work now.
PC gamers got really annoyed by some comments made by the Enigma DRM devs. And, since then, they’ve begun witchhunting all the Capcom games that use it. Ironically, the Enigma DRM is not as intrusive or annoying as the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. So while this should feel like a win, PC gamers are still pissed about it.
And I get it. If you’re playing Monster Hunter Rise on Steam Deck, you must be pissed right now. However, I expect Capcom to fix this issue soon. Monster Hunter Rise was Steam Deck verified, so you know that Capcom will fix it.
I also don’t know how this rumor about the “Enigma DRM blocking mods” surfaced. In my eyes, it seems like a coordinated attack on this DRM. And PC gamers are acting like fools. Do you know why? Because we’ve already seen A LOT of patches for NUMEROUS games that have broken mod compatibility. Skyrim had these issues, Starfield had them, The Witcher 3 had them, Cyberpunk 2077 had them. This is NOTHING new. And guess what? These games don’t use the Enigma DRM. So, what’s their excuse? And why weren’t PC gamers review-bombing them? Why do PC gamers all of a sudden act like this is only happening to the Capcom games due to the Enigma DRM? How stupid can you be to believe something like that?
#MonsterHunterRise got a patch. Denuvo removed and replaced with Enigma. File mods work. Messing with memory still works. At least some debuggers still work. RE Framework works if you use the nightly build. DLL injection mods might be affected

If you don’t believe us then at least believe the creator of the Fluffy Mod Manager. The Fluffy Mod Manager is the tool that most Resident Evil/Capcom mods use to work. And the modder claimed that the Enigma DRM does not prevent modding. So, this is a nothing-burger.
Oh, and for the “DRM rebels” out there, even if the Capcom games weren’t using the Enigma DRM, they’d still have one DRM. That’s the Steam DRM. So, basically, they are not DRM-free. And yes, every game on Steam has that specific DRM. The only games that are DRM-free are those on GOG. So, if you don’t like games that have a DRM… what the hell are you doing on Steam and why are you still using it?
