Capcom has removed Denuvo from Monster Hunter Stories

Capcom has just removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech from its Monster Hunter game on PC, Monster Hunter Stories. Monster Hunter Stories came out on PC in June 2024. This means that it took Capcom five months to remove it from it.

As usual, Capcom replaced Denuvo with the Enigma DRM. This is something that the Japanese team has been doing in pretty much all of its recent PC releases. From what I know, the Enigma DRM is not as intrusive or annoying as the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. For instance, the game will no longer lock you out for 24 hours after making five hardware changes.

In theory, this should be a win for PC gamers. However, some PC gamers got annoyed earlier this year by comments made by one of Enigma’s developers.

As said, the removal of Denuvo is not that surprising. Capcom has done the exact same thing with Monster Hunter Worlds, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin and Resident Evil Village. Surprisingly enough, though, Resident Evil 4 Remake still has it, whereas Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake are no longer plagued by it.

As we’ve reported, other companies have also removed Denuvo from several of their titles. In March 2023, KRAFTON removed Denuvo from The Callisto ProtocolNEOWIZ has also removed it from its Souls-like game, Lies of P. In October 2024, Gearbox has also removed it from Homeworld 3.

And that’s not all. Bethesda’s Wolfenstein YoungbloodGhostwire: Tokyo and Doom Eternal no longer have it. Warner Bros has also removed it from Mortal Kombat 11. Then we have Bandai Namco who has removed it from Tekken 7 and NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER.

Another company that has removed Denuvo from a lot of its PC titles is Square Enix. The Japanese team has removed it from games like The Diofield ChronicleVALKYRIE ELYSIUMTRIANGLE STRATEGYLIVE A LIVE and Forspoken. Moreover, both Octopath Traveler and its sequel no longer use it. And, in May 2024, SE also removed Denuvo from Star Ocean The Second Story R.
