In an interview with OnMSFT, CD Projekt RED’s John Mamais talked a bit about Cyberpunk 2077 VR. According to Mamais, CD Projekt RED experimented with a VR version of its upcoming RPG. And although the team has VR dev kits, it decided to pass on it.
As Mamais said:
“We tried. We were thinking about VR but, yeah, we’re not doing anything with VR. We got the VR dev kits but… some things would work in VR but, I think, it’s not really viable yet. You’re not making a lot of money in VR yet. It’s very experimental and niche, yeah. I would like to. I like VR but we’re not doing anything with it yet.”
So yeah, don’t expect a VR version of Cyberpunk 2077 anytime soon. Still, I’m pretty sure that modders will be able to mod the game so it can run in VR. That is of course if the game is friendly to mods.
It’s worth noting that CD Projekt RED had released an official modkit for The Witcher 3. However, the team did not release any Redkit Editor similar to that of The Witcher 2. Still, and for what it’s worth, modders found a way to play The Witcher 3 in VR mode. Therefore, I’m almost certain that there will be a VR mod for Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077 will release in September 2020!
