Bugbear Entertainment is currently giving away for free the first classic FlatOut game on GOG. Until February 22nd, PC gamers can visit its GOG store page and acquire their free copy. So, make sure to get this fantastic arcade racer.
FlatOut came out in 2005, aiming to deliver a thrilling combination of high-octane racing and smash-em-up demolition derby action. The game also had death-defying stunts that could propel the driver through the windshield.
One of its biggest features was its physics engine. This engine enabled ragdoll animations and a very advanced collision model. At least for its time. Not only that but it featured 36 race tracks with fully destructible environments.
FlatOut also features 6 death defying minigames (High Jump, Long Jump, Darts, Bowling, Bullseye, Clown) and 6 destruction arenas and dirt tracks (Demolition Dash, Super Mud Mayhem, Demolition Sandpit, Circle of Eight, Super Roundabout, Crashalley Run).
In short, this was an amazing arcade racing game. And while the franchise lost its way – and charm – in its sequels, Bugbear Entertainment released Wreckfest in 2018 which was its spiritual successor.
