At long last. Dean Hall has just announced that DayZ will be developed as a stand-alone game by Bohemia Interactive, with him as the project lead. This is amazing as it proves our earlier claims that DayZ is the modern-day Counter-Strike. Yes, these two mods share different themes but the impact they had in the gaming industry was identical.
According to Hall, development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so.
The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.
Now obviously some of you may be wondering why Bohemia decided to develop it as a stand-alone game. The answer is simple: Obviously, the indie company wants to keep its fanbase and with the upcoming release of ‘The War Z,’ the company felt that it needed to do something to attract everyone on them once again. Therefore, DayZ going stand-alone was the perfect choice, at the perfect time.
No further news have been shared as of yet, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted about it!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
