NVIDIA has revealed that the Ray Tracing Update for Diablo 4 will be released on March 26th. This update will add to the game ray-traced reflections and shadows.
Back in January 2023, NVIDIA shared a video that showcased these Ray Tracing effects. Now while in side-by-side comparisons these RT effects can be easily noticeable, they won’t magically change the look and feel of the game. So, I don’t personally consider them a must. Sure thing, they are a welcome addition. However, they won’t be game-changing effects.
Now the good news here is that Diablo 4 already supports DLSS 3 Frame Generation. As such, RTX GPU owners can enable DLSS 2 and DLSS 3 (for those who own an RTX40 series GPU) to increase performance.
Diablo 4 performed extremely well on PC when it came out in June 2023. Even an NVIDIA GTX980Ti was able to push over 60fps at all times at 1080p/Ultra. At Native 4K/Ultra Settings, the RTX4090 could push over 144fps at all times. So, even if the new Ray Tracing effects cut the game’s performance by half, you should still be able to get framerates over 60fps on high-end GPUs.
We’ll most likely test these RT Reflections and Shadows when the update comes out. Alongside the performance graphs, I will also include a Before/After video. Well, that is if the game does not require you to restart it once you enable/disable its Ray Tracing effects.
Stay tuned for more!
