Digital Extremes’ Free-To-Play Third-Person Action Game ‘Warframe’ Enters Closed Beta Phase

Get ready everyone because this is what a lot of you have been waiting for. Digital Extremes has just informed us about the beginning of the Warframe Closed Beta, meaning that the new Free-to-play, sci-fi action game – from the developers behind Unreal, Dark Sector and The Darkness II – is now in its testing phase. Players will be added to the Closed Beta incrementally over the next several weeks to help improve the game and infrastructure in preparation for the official launch of the Open Beta this winter.
Additionally, the official Warframe website has gone liveĀ andĀ gamers can learn more about the game and register for the Closed Beta by entering their email address and reserving an in-game alias.
Operating as the primary download site for the game (a mere 500MB file), the Warframe website will also act as the community hub for the latest game news, updates and player interactions, including the latest Developer Diaries, trailers, art assets and background information on the game. Closed Beta members will also have access to the game’s official Forums and Support to help provide feedback and bug reports to the development team.
Despite few details released so far, Warframe has amassed a loyal fan following and an incredibly large registration response since announcing its development in late June. Gamers from around the world have registered for the game and referred their friends to do the same, helping them achieve placement on the Warframe VIP list — which secures them earlier entrance into the Closed Beta.
According to Steve Sinclair, the game’s Creative Director, the start of Closed Beta for Warframe is a significant milestone for the independent developer:
“Obviously we get excited to release all of our games, but Warframe is different. The concept for Warframe has been at the back of our minds for years. We’ve invested a lot more than just time and work into Warframe and it’s going to be so awesome to see a final product made independent of a traditional publisher… and even more awesome to see people playing a game that’s come to mean so much to us.”
A third-person, co-op focused action game at its core, Warframe’s fiction situates players as members of the Tenno race, newly awoken after years of cryo-sleep into a solar system at war. Reborn into a corrupt era, the Tenno are already sought by the oppressive Grineer Empire for annihilation. Warframe armor is the key to overthrowing the Grineer by providing players with unique offensive and defensive powers to explore, upgrade and master during purpose-driven radical raids.
Developed on Digital Extremes’ Evolution Engine?, Warframe is pushing AAA-quality gaming into the Free-to-play PC market with minimum PC specs requiring Windows XP SP3, 2GB RAM, and a SM 3.0 video card. Registrations for the Closed Beta continue to be accepted at its official website.
Enjoy!
