First gaming benchmarks for the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT appear online

It appears that the first gaming benchmarks for AMD’s upcoming RDNA 4 GPU, the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT, have appeared online. According to Videocardz, this GPU will be 38% and 42% faster than the AMD Radeon 7900 GRE at 1440p and 4K, respectively.

And I know. A lot of you will be asking one simple question. Why did AMD use the 7900 GRE and not the 7900XTX? And the answer is simple. The AMD Radeon RX 9070XT will trade blows in a lot of games with that GPU. So, using it in an official slide would immediately make the 9070XT feel a bit underwhelming.

Compared to the AMD Radeon RX 6900XT, the RX 9070XT will be 51% faster at 4K. This means that the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT should be close to the performance of the AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX. After all, the 7900XTX is usually 40-55% faster than the RX 6900XT at 4K.

Now the good news is that the RDNA4 GPUs are said to be significantly faster in Ray Tracing than the RDNA3 GPUs. So, in theory, the RX 9070XT should be as fast as the RX 7900XTX in rasterized games, and a bit faster than it in ray-traced games.

From what we’ve seen, the NVIDIA RTX 5080 is faster in most of the games than the AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX. So, it’s safe to assume that the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT won’t be able to match its performance. However, it will be interesting to see how it will fare against the NVIDIA RTX 5070Ti.

AMD will officially reveal its RDNA4 GPUs on February 28th. My guess is that the red team will unveil the release date and price for both the AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070XT. AMD’s CEO has also confirmed that the first RDNA4 GPUs will be available in early March.

Before closing, I should note that these performance figures are from AMD’s official slides. In other words, these could be the best-case scenarios for the upcoming RDNA4 GPUs. So, I strongly suggest waiting for some third-party benchmarks.

Stay tuned for more!
