Rage3D’s user ‘Chubz’ is back with a punch. A year ago, Chubz created an amazing video that showcased what Doom would look like as a modern-day shooter. That video was inspired by kmoosmann’s “If Quake was done today,” and today we present you the second part of Chubz’ take on this whole modern-day FPS formula.
This project takes John Romero’s E1M2, Nuclear Plant, and gives it a modern makeover.
As Chubz described, you’ll see a lot of modern-day mechanics as regenerating health, quick-time events, as well as mechanics that weren’t present in Part 1 like achievements and a “bloody screen” effect when damaged.
We should note that much like the first one, this level is meant to make a statement rather than be enjoyable to play.
This video is hilarious and gives us a taste of a completely different game. Actually, it could be fun to play the entire Doom games this way. Ironically, this video is spot on too, as most FPS games are borrowing the CoD formula in order to appeal to a broader crowd.
We’ve also decided to include the first part of ‘If Doom Was Done Today’.
Enjoy!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. John has also written a higher degree thesis on the “The Evolution of PC graphics cards.”
