GameStop is in the process of closing many stores in the United States. Retail stores are losing ground with each and every day due to digital stores. People do not buy retail versions of games like the used to. Digital copies are usually cheaper and easier to purchase, especially when you can get a high speed internet connection pretty easy these days.
More than fifty stores will be closing soon, all around the United States. Many people will be losing their jobs due to the closure, which is very sad indeed. Of course this is not a surprise since GameStop went through an overly aggressive expansion over the last years and its stock is still declining.
GameStop will probably still be here for the next-generation, but it is highly unlikely to go further beyond that. You can check the whole list of the closing stores here.
Thanks GamingBolt.
Chris was born in the early 80’s along with the very birth of home gaming. After spending many maaany drachmas on arcades, his father decided to buy him a PC instead of going bankrupt. He lived through the advancing and development of the gaming industry, having played TONS of games on all platforms. He is always honest and will never hesitate to give his true opinion on a game no matter what. Loves stealth games and dislikes microtsansactions, DLC and pre-ordering…who doesn’t after all?!
