A couple of hours ago, Sony announced that God of War: Ragnarok will be coming to PC onĀ September 19th. This news excited a lot of PC GoW fans. However, the game will require a PSN account in order to play it on the PC.
As we can clearly see on the Steam store page, Sony has listed PlayStation Network as a requirement.
What really sucks here is that the first God of War game did not require a PSN account. So, those who live in a country that does not support PSN will not be able to continue their journey. At least legally. So, I assume that a lot of people will sail the high seas. The game won’t be using Denuvo so it will be immediately cracked.
Not only that but this is a single-player game. There is no reason at all to force PSN in a single-player game. So, contrary to Ghost of Tsushima which was playable without a PSN account, GoW: Ragnarok may not be playable at all if you don’t create and use a PSN account.
If that’s indeed the case, I am almost tempted to download a pirated version of it (after purchasing it on Steam). Ironically, the pirated version may offer a better experience than the official one. After all, I won’t have to create and use multiple accounts with it.
Let this sink in. We are at a point where a pirated version seems better with less bloatware than an official/retail version. Man, what a cluster-f.
I just hope that Sony or Jetpack will clarify whether you can launch and play the game without a PSN account. Because if you cannot, Sony will be shooting itself in its foot. Again, this is a single-player game. There is no reason at all to require a PSN account (other than greed). This isn’t an online game like Helldivers 2 (which works wonderfully without PSN).
Stay tuned for more!
