Ubisoft surprised everyone at E3 2019 when it announced that its next Watch_Dogs game, Watch_Dogs Legion, will let players assume the role of every NPC and that the game will feature permadeath. And yesterday, Ubisoft’s creative director Clint Hocking shared some more details about the game’s permadeath mechanics.
As Hocking claims, when players’ health reaches zero, they will have the choice to either surrender (and save their characters) or keep fighting until they either complete their mission or get killed… permanently.
“Permadeath is always an opt-in gamble for the player. When your health goes to ‘zero’ you enter the critically injured state. At this point you are always offered the opportunity to Surrender, and be sent to jail. You can systemically free Operatives who have been sent to jail, or wait for them to be released. But if you choose not to Surrender, and Keep Fighting, then you are risking Permadeath.”
It’s a cool concept and it’s good to know that it will be optional. As such, players will be able to keep their Operatives alive throughout the entire game if they choose to, and not have any casualties at all.
Watch_Dogs Legion is currently planned for a March 6th, 2020, and its PC version will officially support real-time ray tracing.
