Prior to the game’s release, Turn10 was claiming that the PC version of Forza Motorsport would support Ray Tracing Global Illumination. However, when the game launched in October 2023, RTGI was nowhere to be found. Now, almost a year later, PC gamers found a way via which they can enable RTGI.
To enable RTGI (as well as some higher-quality graphics settings), you’ll simply have to follow this simple guide.
- Set everything in the game to Ultra
- Head over to the game’s installation folder – Forza Motorsport\Media\PCFamily\Renderscenarios
- In there, you’ll see the folder called “visualtarget”
- Copy everything from it to the “ultra” folder
- Run the game and enjoy RTGI and higher-quality graphics settings
Do note that this is an unofficial way via which you can enable ray-traced global illumination. As such, there might be some stability issues, as well as graphical glitches. Still, this will give you a glimpse at what Turn10 was initially aiming to include in the game.
DigitalFoundry has shared a video that showcases these new ray-traced global illumination effects. The video also has some comparison screenshots between the vanilla and the modded versions of FM. So, be sure to watch it.
Forza Motorsport looked worse when it came out than its pre-release gameplay footage. So, it’s a shame that Turn10 didn’t include RTGI in the PC version. I guess Microsoft wasn’t comfortable with the PC version looking better than the console version.
Enjoy!
