Bethesda has announced that during QuakeCon 2020, id Software’s classic FPS, Quake, will be free to everyone. This basically means that the game will be free to own between August 7th and August 9th.
All you have to do in order to acquire your free copy of Quake is login to Bethesda.net. As the press release reads:
- QUAKE for Free! – Throughout the weekend of QuakeCon, players can login to Bethesda.net and obtain a free digital copy of the original Quake on the Bethesda launcher. You must be logged into your Bethesda.net account to claim the free game.
Once you acquire your free copy of Quake, you can also download some mods for it. For instance, Slayer’s Testaments is a Doom Eternal mod for Quake. Arcane Dimensions HD is an unofficial expansion, featuring 22 new levels. There is also an AI-enhanced HD Texture Pack for this shooter, as well as vkQuake 1.0; a Quake 1 port using the Vulkan API.
Additionally, if donations hit the $10K goal, Bethesda will be giving away free copies of Quake 2. By doing this, the publisher will also give access to the game’s full Ray Tracing version. And, as I’ve already said, Quake 2 RTX is something you have to experience.
Stay tuned for more!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
